As Beijing Airport City develops it will become an engine of regional economic development attracting an inflow of international clients such as FedEx, DHL and UPS and leading to investment in the surrounding area.
According to the latest estimates, Beijing Airport City is expected to generate around $19 billion per annum in economic activity by 2015, generating 7.8 % of Beijing 's GDP, despite only occupying 1.5% of its land mass. Chinese economic experts have gone further to predict the airport city will generate some $585 million to $880 million in tax revenue per year.
Its economic value aside, Beijing Airport City is also expected to provide significant job opportunities. At full operating capacity the airport city will require an estimated 520,000 working population as well as 400,000-500,000 additional residents.
As the political, economic and cultural centre of China, Beijing has become the growth engine for the development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Metropolitan area and the surrounding Bohai economic region.
As well as strengthening Beijing Capital Airport's cargo processing capabilities, ACLP will promote the regional economic development of the Shunyi, Chaoyang and Tongzhou districts, as well as further enhancing Beijing's international competitiveness.
It will significantly drive the economic and social development of the areas in its vicinity and provide a template, which in the future ACL will use to promote similar airport city developments across China.
With this massive development already behind it, Beijing Airport City looks set to take the concept to the next level. Like China's gigantic economy, Beijing's urban development is set to transform the scale on which the world understands aerotropolis growth.
