Add up the sum total, and the impact of DFW on the north Texas economy is staggering.
In its most recent survey using 2005 data, the Texas Department of Transportation estimated that DFW pumps more than $16.6 billion into the economy, and is responsible for 305,000 north Texas jobs and $7.6 billion in local payroll.
However, DFW's overall impact does not stop with economic contributions. It has also become a world leader among airports in two key areas of future development - sustainability and airfield safety.
The Land Use Plan process has involved not only DFW, but its owner cities, Dallas and Fort Worth as well as the four host cities on which DFW Airport resides, namely Grapevine, Coppell, Euless and Irving.
The collaborative effort ensures that the airport's key stakeholders are fully integrated in the process of nurturing development opportunities, and it ensures that each city has a role in the development of complementary rather than competitive businesses.
