Dayton International Airport's goal is to maximise non-airline revenues by optimising utilisation of airport assets, and to aggressively expand alliances with new business partners as part of its Strategic Business Plan.
The airport is expanding a number of facilities to meet aeronautical and non-aeronautical needs.
Currently under way is the construction of a $35 million, three-storey car parking facility to be completed by October 2010. The parking garage will have approximately 2,100 spaces at daily and short-term parking rates. Rental Car companies will use 700 of these parking spaces.
This garage facility is one of the major development goals of the airport: to increase non-airline revenues, produce a dramatic positive shift in customer convenience, and services remain competitive with other airports in the region. The existing short-term and long-term public parking lots continue to be at or near capacity during peak days of the week (Tuesday to Thursday).
The main focus of the next phase will be development of a consolidated rental car facility in the area west of Boeing Drive and south of Terminal Drive. This facility will encompass approximately 18 hectares and be comprised of a single customer service building.
A ready/return area will be located immediately adjacent to the customer service building. The 700 spaces in the parking garage will be available for public use. The ready/return area will be designated for customers pick-up and return of vehicles. Service facilities for up to six rental car companies will be provided where they will clean, fuel, repair, and store vehicles.
Dayton recently completed a revamp of its food and beverage offerings inside the terminal building. A new Boston Stoker (coffee shop) Arts Cafè, a new Fairway Bar & Grill, and a new Starbucks opened at the airport to increase customer satisfaction.
A $4.2 million Terminal Drive Improvement began in 2007 and is due for completion in 2010. The rehabilitation of the Terminal Drive includes pavement, drainage system upgrades, installation of underground utilities and erection of new signage and other related roadway improvements. The $4.2 million for this project includes professional services: design, construction management and inspection.
A new Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) sponsored $30 million 255-foot control tower was recently completed and is being prepared for operation and work has begun installing a consolidated baggage make-up facility with automated in-line screening system.
Two general aviation complexes with two full service Fixed Base Operators (FBO) - Stevens Aviation and Wright Brothers Aero - a Comair maintenance centre and five corporate hangars are part of Existing airport developments on the north east side of the Airport.
Department of Aviation airfield maintenance offices and garage facilities are located in General Aviation Center One; a corporate hangar used by Aviation Sales is located at General Aviation Center Two. Additional corporate hangar facilities will be provided near the Center One complex. These facilities will be developed when user demand warrants.
