Dublin Airport City will involve a fully master planned and fully serviced brownfield site rejuvenation. A fundamental principle of the master plan is to put environmental and social issues on an equal footing with the project's commercial, functional, technical and aesthetic considerations.
Working closely with government, Dublin Airport City will deliver a radical, new sustainability benchmark for commercial development in Ireland and beyond.
This will also involve the creation of 'green collar' jobs and the use of environmental best practice in the running of Dublin Airport City, including rainwater harvesting and renewable energy.
The project's environmental sustainability credentials will be optimised by ensuring all buildings meet and exceed 'LEED Platinum' standards in their construction and operation.
Passive strategies for lighting, heating and cooling, and the incorporation of intelligent building management systems, will further reduce energy use. Energy generation and energy preservation solutions will be developed and honed over time with a view to transplanting clean technology back into the operation of Dublin Airport itself.
Recognising that renewable energy will power a growing proportion of the next generation of commercial development, the Dublin Airport Authority plans to partner with the best global expertise available in this field and to maximise its potential for use within Dublin Airport City.
The master plan for Dublin Airport City is based on the widest possible definition of 'sustainability'. Creating a development with a true sense of place and innovation, it will inspire contemporary architecture and the opportunity for occupiers to shape the purpose-built spaces to their needs.
The encouragement of biodiversity through the introduction of green roofs and extensive landscaping, among other features, will help to foster an environment where people will enjoy working and visiting for decades to come.
Partnering with academic and institutional leaders in the field of environmental sustainability will be central to the success of Dublin Airport City.
