The ultimate goal of the KLIA Aeropolis is to generate new wealth for the region by expanding the potential of the world-class airport at KLIA.
With the implementation of the proposed development, it is believed that the development will act as a catalyst for further expansion in the surrounding area. Kuala Lumpur International Airport is a key economic generator for the city and surrounding country. A total of 22,000 people currently owe their livelihoods to the airport city.
Since the inception of KLIA, urban growth in the Klang Valley has since been trending southwards from Kuala Lumpur to KLIA, spurred by multiple integrated developments by the government.
The residential development has had the most impact on KLIA. Infrastructure improvements have shrunk travelling distances and large new townships are now developed around KLIA. These townships have been planned with the capacity to support a future total population of 235,000.
Industrial developments, commercial centres, public and private tertiary institutions and medical centres are also forming the landscape around a 20km radius of KLIA.
Much of the existing land is currently being used for palm oil plantations, a significant revenue driver for the gateway.
