When KLIA opened in 1998 it was originally designed to provide a transport hub for Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), a high-tech government, commercial, education and residential zone about the size of Chicago, consisting of the two cities of Putrajaya and Cyberjaya (Cyber City) each home to 250,000 residents.
Integrated development within the MSC and the surrounding area is being pursued by the government through multiple-strand economic corridors providing the base for industrial, commercial, educational and residential development.
Companies located within MSC, upon securing the status, will be able to enjoy benefits through the full product cycle and supply chain process, from R&D to manufacturing, storage and distribution.
The focus for the coming years will be in the branding and marketing of the aeropolis development to draw local and global investors and the provision of main infrastructure for the initial phase of the commercial development.
Malaysia Airports is in talks with several property investors/developers and industry players about the possibility of participating in the development base; either on land lease, joint venture or other viable and acceptable development proposal. Interested developers/industry players are being invited for discussions with KLIA on the potential to develop the areas.
