MXD

MXD Development Strategists are experts in the creation of airport city and mixed-use development strategies. During the past decade MXD has been at the frontline of defining airport cities which it recognises as gateways for economic and commercial development at and around airports and as a vehicle for generating non-aeronautical revenues.

MXD is made up of a team of commercial development strategists, land economists, real estate experts, planners and place makers who provide the necessary balance of vision and implementation.

MXD has prepared major mixed-use development strategies in over 40 different countries around the globe to assess, identify and define major projects that balance market-driven planning with creative design place making and revenue creation.

The result is an A-Z approach to connecting the dots of the development process. This process starts with a solid foundation of market and financial analysis which leads to programme definition and layout design.

Implementing the vision involves creating the story, brand and identity for the place.  Together, this platform is used to establish investment parameters, attract tenants and promote the destination. MXD's long-established participation in the aviation industry enables the team to think like planners, designers, developers, investors, tenants and consumers.

MXD's global expertise and knowledge of the airport city/aerotropolis phenomenon, has enabled them to leverage non-aeronautical revenues from optimising airports as gateways for regional economic development.

This value is created through the identification of airside-dependent, aviation-related and 'groundside commercial' development and economic clusters that form a bridge between airports and the commercial development sectors.

MXD's airport city planning and development strategy approach involves working interactively with project development teams to assess, identify and define commercial development programmes and establish the land use allocation.

A key element of these strategies is to define specific niche economic clusters that respond to a region's strengths and set the recommended commercial development apart from the competition - regionally and globally.

The objective of this methodology is to identify the optimal multi-use commercial development mix that responds to market opportunities, creates non-aeronautical revenues and generates both real estate and community value.

The MXD team, headed by Chris LeTourneur, has helped organise, chair and have spoken at many of the Airport Cities World Conference and Exhibition events around the globe, including events held in Dubai, Athens, Dallas, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Rome, Palermo, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Orlando.

The team has continually published articles relating to non-aeronautical revenue streams and economic development at airport cities.
