Welcome to Airport Cities 2012

It is Denver International Airport’s good fortune to host the 2012 Airport Cities World Conference, and we welcome you to our city, state and airport.

Our city is embracing the aerotropolis concept. Denver’s new mayor, the honorable Michael B. Hancock, said in his inauguration speech – given just a few months ago – that his administration is dedicated to turning the area surrounding Denver International Airport into a “bustling ‘aerotropolis’ that will drive job growth and become a regional economic powerhouse.” He said the city would turn the entire 22-mile (35.4-km) corridor between Denver International Airport and the city center into a “Corridor of Opportunity.”

The ability to see opportunity and to act is something that is inherent in our city’s collective temperament. The city grew by recognizing that it would have to link itself to the world through primary transportation systems – first railroads, then highways, then commercial flight. And once Denver became a part of global commerce, the city took the opportunity to enhance its economic future by building a new aviation port: Denver International Airport.

Opportunity – in the form of an aerotropolis – is again available to us, and we intend to explore this potential. So, I can’t think of a better time for Denver to provide the venue for the Airport Cities World Conference.

It seems to me that opportunity is the primary theme of every Airport Cities World Conference, because you are exposed to experienced and talented airport professionals, aviation industry experts, and community and business leaders, who are meeting here to talk about accomplishments and possibilities; sharing ideas and stimulating discussion.

Denver is excited to be part of the dialogue. That excitement is shared by Denver International Airport’s community of airlines, concession tenants, ground transportation operators, and all the other companies that operate here.

With the greatest pleasure, we extend our hospitality to you, our guests, and hope that opportunity is something you can take away from this conference and bring home.

Best wishes,
