Just fives months after work began to upgrade the Punjab's domestic Chandigarh Airport into an international gateway, state officials have drawn up plans to equip it with a ready-made 312-hectare airport city in time for its planned opening later this year.
Following a meeting of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), it was agreed that 4,500 residential plots of various sizes owned by GMADA would be made available through a public drawing of lots.
Work is already progressing on a new international terminal for the airport and upgrades to its domestic terminal, cargo complex and runway and GMADA is wants the site to include an aerotropolis to serve as a catalyst for the aviation and logistic sectors in the Punjab region.
