Amsterdam Schiphol, has become the first airport in the world to install a cinema where visitors can watch virtual 3D 'ride' adventures with added effects.
The 3D cinema gives spectators a 6 dimensional experience because they are seated in a special motion-based seat, so they can feel and experience the adventure, which is also heightened by sound, wind and lighting effects.
At the moment, there are three 'rides' for customers to choose from at the cinema, including: Canyon Coaster, which takes viewers on a dizzying journey through the canyons and mines of the Wild West; Jett & Jinn an adventure about a little boy and his cat flying through the city; and Snowride, which takes the viewer across snow-covered ski slopes.
The cinema has been installed at Schiphol in collaboration with XD cinemas and new films will regularly be added to the selection.
Gabi Salabi, vice president of business development at Triotech, said: 'We are proud that Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the first airport in the world to have one of our 6D XD Theatres.
"It's a terrific location with a tremendous diversity of visitors, and we are very excited to share this new way of experiencing film with them.
"Although these films are only four to five minutes long, visitors genuinely gain a new experience in our theatre."
The cinema is located at Schiphol Plaza across from the Meeting Point and will be featured for a trial period of six months.
Admission is restricted to persons aged five and over who are at least 1.40m tall and tickets cost €6.
Otto Ambagtsheer, consumers director of Schiphol Group, said: "The opening of the XD Theatre enables Amsterdam Schiphol to expand the range of entertainment products on offer at the airport.
"We expect not only passengers to take advantage of this new attraction, but also day trippers and people picking up and seeing off family and friends."
