Auckland International Airport has won a national award following a big drive to revamp its terminal retail offering.

The gateway won the Excellence Award in the Retail Property category at the annual Property Council Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards 2011, which are awarded for achievements in property development.
The redevelopment of Auckland Airport's international departures, which won it the award, has involved expanding and relocating the security area as well as a complete overhaul of the foodcourt.
Adrian Littlewood, general manager for retail & commercial at Auckland Airport, said: "We have been very focused on expanding and improving our international terminal area to ensure that our passengers are offered a world-class travel experience."
The foodcourt has seen several new food and beverage concepts added to it, including Hayama Sushi & Silk Road Asian restaurant, a KFC and a Mac's Brew Bar.
Meanwhile, the airport has also renovated the retail area for those international passengers who have passed through security.
The duty free shops, DFS and JR Duty Free, have both been expanded, and a number of new retail and dining options have been added including MAC cosmetics, Apple, Icebreaker, Swatch, Zarbo deli and wine bar and Valentino's gelato.
Littlewood said: "Our emphasis has been on creating a unique and high quality environment for everyone passing through Auckland Airport."
