The organisers of an international conference covering the development of airport cities which is due to take place in Brisbane next month have insisted it will go ahead as planned despite the recent floods that ravaged the Australian state of Queensland,.
Redefining the Role of the Airport: An International Colloquium on the Airport Metropolis, organised by The Queensland University of Technology, wil take place in Brisbane on February 9 and 10 and will include keynote speakers Jack Kasarda, executive director of the Kenan Institute for Business, an academic and consultant who coined the phrase aerotropolis, Joop Krul, managing director of the Schiphol Airport and John Terrell, VP of commercial development at Dallas/ Fort Worth International Airport.
Despite experiencing what Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard called "worst natural disaster in our history" Queensland's Brisbane Airport managed to stay open and operational throughout the crisis, although passengers struggled to reach it along water logged roads.
