FedEx has expanded the size of its cargo operations at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) by nearly 40% in a bid to improve efficiency and “strengthen its on-time delivery commitment to customers”.

The expansion at HKIA saw the facility’s floor space expand by 37% to 4,695sqm, as well as the addition of new equipment, staff and a new storage area.
According to FedEx, the improvements mean the cargo centre will now be able to process three freighter loads of cargo in just under 45 minutes.
Anthony Leung, managing director, FedEx Express Hong Kong and Macau, said: “The expansion of our Hong Kong airport facility reinforces our commitment to continuously improve our customers’ experience with FedEx.
“The Hong Kong airport facility is constantly ranked number one in on-time performance among all FedEx facilities around the world.
“This expansion will further strengthen our ability to ensure our customers’ satisfaction and ease of mind with FedEx reliable, efficient service.”
The improved facility now has a total of 14 trucking docks and four direct ramp access gates.
New equipment includes an additional extendable conveyor belt – now two in total – for loading and unloading individual packages, two new scissor lifts – now five in total – for air freight containers, and five docks for pallet shipments.
FedEx also installed an additional 748sqm of caster decks to accommodate more airfreight containers and faster movement of freight shipments directly to the ramp.
Meanwhile, FedEx has increased the number of staff by 5% and set up additional office space within the premises to support the larger facility.
