A consortia headed by Argentinain utilities company Basic Energy Ltd in partnership with Haiti's WIN Group has announced it will build Toussaint Toussaint L'Ouverture International Airport's first hotel.
The $33 million, 240-room hotel will feature conference facilities capable of accommodating 400 individuals for a single event with adjacent space for additional commercial or retail developments.
The seven-story property will be designed by OBM International and will be built to meet or exceed all international earthquake standards following the January earthquake in Haiti.
"This is such an important project on so many levels," says WIN Group Managing Partner Youri Mevs. "Not only will it provide badly-needed hotel and conference facilities, but will employ hundreds of local workers in desperate need of generating revenue to support themselves and their families."
