Frankfurt Airport has recorded a record breaking May for passenger traffic with 5 million people passing through its doors, a 5.8% increase on last year.
Aircraft movements during this period rose by 3.6% to 43,207 and Frankfurt recorded a -7.9% in airfreight to 188,143 metric tons.
Much of this increase can be attributed to a recovery in traffic following the Icelandic ash cloud disruption, which meant much of April's air cargo had to be shipped the following month.
Across the Fraport group of airports, Antalya Airport saw a 10.5% increase in passengers in May to 2.7 million, Lima's traffic increased 15.5% to 971,800, Varna saw a reduction of -8.7% in traffic.
Burgas Airport experienced a 7.4% increase in traffic to 94,000, a result Fraport put down to a strong growth in hotel capacity in the southern coastal region served by Burgas.
