Frankfurt Airport saw cargo volumes jumped nearly 26% in the first 10 months of 2010 and set a new historic record for cargo tonnage in October.
The cargo hub processed 1,853,341 tonnes of cargo between January and October and 206,085 tonnes last month alone, representing a 15.8% increase year-on-year.
In contrast airmail fell -3.2% in the first ten months of the year to 61,303 tonnes and -2.8% in October to 6,694 tonnes.
More than 5 million passengers travelled through Frankfurt during the reporting month, an 8.5% year-on-year increase.Total passengers for January-to-October 2010 increased by 4.4% to 45.1 million passengers year-on-year.
Beyond its home base, Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt saw its leading majority-owned airports continue to achieve strong growth.
Antalya (AYT) Airport on the Turkish Riviera registered a 22.7% gain in traffic, while Peru's Lima Airport (LIM) recorded a 24.6% surge in passengers. In contrast, Fraport's two airports on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast grew at differing rates.
Passenger throughput at Burgas Airport (BOJ) grew by 6.2% and at Varna Airport (VAR) by 3.2%. However, these figures reflect the relatively small statistical base outside the summer operating season.
Overall, Fraport's majority-owned airports (including Fraport) served a total of 8.5 million passengers in October 2010, up 13.9% year-on-year.
