Kuehne & Nagel has acquired 75% of New Zealand-based reefer operator Cooltainer, as it continues its expansion into the global perishable logistics business.
Following Kuehne & Nagel's acquisition in January of three South American airfreight forwarders specialising in perishable logistics, the company has now bought 75% of the shares in Cooltainer.
Cooltainer transports perishable goods throughout the South Pacific, including niche markets such as the Trans-Tasman and Pacific Island trades.
Peter Ulber, executive vice president sea & air logistics at Kuehne & Nagel International AG, said: "New Zealand is of key importance for perishables exports to Australia and the South Pacific Islands.
"We are very pleased to join forces with Cooltainer to further strengthen our regional market position through this strategically focused product offering."
