Australian property developer Philip Wolanski is set to expand his airport hotel interests substantially with the signing of a deal to build a A$68 million, four-star hotel at Sydey International Airport.Wolanski's company the Denwol Group, which became the new operator of the Darwin Airport Resort and Darwin Airport Hotel in July, will begin construction of the 317-room hotel opposite the airport's International Terminal shortly and will complete the project in 2012.
The hotel will feature a bar, restaurant and gym and is designed to "appeal to business travellers and international travellers" alike, says airport operator MAp Airports.
The Rdyges Hotels and Resorts group has been contracted to manage new hotel, a relatioship which mirrors that at Darwin Airport Resort and Darwin Airport Hotels, where the owner is the Denwol Group and operator is Rdyges.
Companies owned by David Baffsky, chairman of the board at Ariadne Property and Syndey lawyer John Landerer are also involved.
"Sydney Airport has a direct role in the promotion of tourism in Sydney, NSW and Australia and the development of a new four-star hotel will enhance Sydney as a premier destination for inbound tourism to Australia," says Sydney Airport CEO Kerrie Mather.
"We continue to invest in projects that we see as enhancing Sydney Airport as a world class airport experience and to expand our range of services to meet the needs of passengers, family and friends," she added.
