German car maker Porsche has announced it will build a $100 million, 26 acre corporate headquarters at the Hapeville "Aerotropolis Atlanta" development site, near the new International Terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport that will boast space for 400 workers, a training centre and test track.
After a year long search that included visits to 70 potential sites across the US, Porsche decided to base its new HQ next to the airport because of its status as the world's busiest airport and the minimal noise problems that would arise from the test track.
During an official press conference to welcome the news Mayor Kasim Reed said: "We welcome the entire Porsche team to Atlanta's newest corporate center, the innovative Aerotropolis complex. Porsche's decision to reinforce its roots and grow its next-generation US headquarters here is a testament to the vitality and vibrancy of our city and an exciting addition to the many iconic brands that also call Atlanta home."
The new campus, which will offer a World of Coke-like marketing attraction, including a classic Porsche restoration shop and a fine dining restaurant. The development will feature a 1.6-mile driving circuit "ö with off-road and on-road courses "ö where visitors can fly in for a day of test driving.
