Russian conglomerate Interros and the Kratos Group, joint investors in a new multi-modal cargo terminal at Sheremetyevo International Airport have called in Lufthansa Consulting and design company IngStroyExpert to help conceptualise and build the $50 million project.
The German aviation consultants will provide the conceptual layout and design of the allocated area for the new cargo terminal and its related infrastructure. Based on capacity calculations, they will also put forward layout proposals for an efficient Material Handling System, which will finally result in a detailed terminal design.
The cago project was first muted in December, when RosAviation and the Russian civial aviation operator, the Federal Agency for Air Transport (Rosaviation) and the Federal Customs Service announced they had signed a memorandum of agreement with the Kratos Group, which includes Cargo Complex Sheremetyevo ltd and Rusport ltd and the Interros Group, the main shareholder and investor in the project, which is controlled by Russian magnate Vladimir Potanin, to build a new cargo facility over a 2-year period.
IngStroyExpert has been chosen by the project investor Kratos Group and will act as the general designer in close cooperation with Lufthansa Consulting.
"We consider this project to be a promising one not only for us as professional investors but also for the state as a whole. Creation of a network of modern transportation logistics hubs is a key element to the country's transportation infrastructure upgrade" , says Sergei Batekhin, vice president of Interros.
Lufthansa Consulting has alsoo been asked to ascertain traffic and cargo flows on site and within the warehouse and work procedures will be defined, both for the handling of general cargo as well as for special cargo, such as perishable goods based on their analysis. Other main areas of Lufthansa Consulting's activities will include the design of IT architecture and the development of a security concept.
The new cargo terminal is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2012.
